I loved Michael Hyatt’s session the first morning of our Re:Create Cruise.  He said two things that made me laugh and completely terrified me!

And I quote:

“Most books sink without a ripple!”

“Don’t make the publishing company the enemy – your book may be crap!”

Michael also gave some great insight to the publishing world, including four myths of publishing.  The advice that struck a chord with my heart the most was #3 – “People will love you for your art”  His response – “They’re not!”

He then broke up this section into three parts.  We will have friends, critics and trolls in our lives, on our blogs; viewing our art.  (See Michael’s post for more information)

A troll is someone that picks fights just to pick them!  Regardless of what you do or say, you will never convince a troll to see your perspective.  Just like a four year old, acting out in disobedience (okay so that was the imagery in my mind as he spoke) when you engage them, you only give them the attention they seek and strengthen their resolve.

My three responses:

  1. I will choose not to be a troll in someone else’s life.
  2. I will do my best to remain teachable.
  3. I will choose to ignore a troll in my life!

Let my friends gently correct me and my critics open up discussion, but please don’t be a troll!  Life is just too short!

I completely disagree with the notion that there are people out there who simply argue just for the sake of arguing… and nothing you say will convince me otherwise. (*wink*)

Just kidding. No trolls here! So glad to hear your trip went so well. I knew it would!

      Haha Brian!

Haha! I loved that comment that Mike made as well about a book being crap! I chuckled out loud then and then again today when I read this! Thanks for sharing, Erica!

Yeah Lindsey, I loved it too. Sara and I walked out of that session and she said, “So, are you totally and completely discouraged right now?” (heading into my book pitch) haha!! I like a good dose of realism! =)
